Local market associations and Hindu-right wing groups have asked Muslims in Uttarakhand's Purola not to hold Eid gatherings and prayers saying it will be provocative and disturb the peace in the town.

The demand from VHP and other groups comes as some Muslim families are returning to Purola after they were forced to leave due to threats from the right-wing groups in May.

The tension began with an alleged attempt to kidnap a minor girl on May 27. Even though the accused were from both the communities and were arrested the next day, Hindu-right wing groups protested and put up posters asking Muslims to leave Purola.
