The Union Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the construction of the third and fourth railway lines on the Ratlam-Nagda section, a major infrastructure boost for Madhya Pradesh.
The project, estimated to cost ₹3,399 crore, is expected to be completed by 2029–30 and aims to enhance rail capacity and speed on this critical route.

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for approving the project, stating that this development will significantly contribute to building a self-reliant and rapidly progressing “New India.”
Dr. Yadav highlighted the benefits of the project, including improved passenger services, increased efficiency in transporting coal, cement, agricultural products, containers, and other industrial goods, along with an added freight handling capacity of 18.40 million tonnes annually.
The project, which falls under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, is designed to strengthen multi-modal connectivity and reduce crude oil imports by over 200 million litres. It will also cut carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 990 million kilograms—equivalent to planting 40 million trees—and create around 7.4 million man-days of employment.
Dr. Yadav expressed confidence that the enhanced rail infrastructure will spur industrial growth, improve logistics efficiency, and accelerate Madhya Pradesh’s overall economic development.
