Under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, Madhya Pradesh's local products are increasingly gaining global recognition through the One District–One Product (ODOP) initiative.

Acknowledging the state's focused and effective implementation of the scheme, Madhya Pradesh has been conferred the Silver Medal in the 2024 ODOP Awards under the States and Union Territories category.

The award was presented by Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal during a ceremony at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.

The recognition celebrates the state’s success in branding local products, fostering entrepreneurship, generating employment, and efficiently implementing the ODOP initiative.

Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta, senior Union Ministers, and officials from several states were present at the ceremony. Smt. Ruhi Khan, Deputy Secretary, Department of Industry, Commerce, and Investment Promotion, received the award on behalf of Madhya Pradesh.

MP’s Local Products Make Global Impact
Madhya Pradesh is witnessing a grassroots-level export boom as its ODOP products find buyers in international markets. Several of these products have been granted Geographical Indication (GI) tags, boosting their appeal abroad and improving the earnings of artisans and producers, particularly in the domains of handicrafts, agriculture, and food processing.

The ODOP scheme covers all districts, promoting products known for their unique geographic, natural, or cultural identity. The state has been actively encouraging local artisans, handloom weavers, and small producers through targeted support.

A total of 19 products from Madhya Pradesh have received GI tags so far, including Chanderi Saree, Bagh Print, Nagpur Orange, Ratlami Sev, Kadaknath Chicken, Chinor Rice, Boutique Print, Stone Craft, Leather Toys, Bell Metal Ware, Maheshwari Saree, Mahoba Deshwari Paan, Morena Gajak, Sundarja Mango, Sharbati Wheat, Gond Painting, Wrought Iron Craft, Handmade Carpet, and Varasivni Handloom Saree. Out of these, seven are part of the ODOP initiative.

The state has successfully showcased high-value products in international forums. Examples include high-quality bananas from Burhanpur, basmati rice from Raisen, and Chinor rice from Balaghat, all of which are now gaining both national and international acclaim. These items are not only building Madhya Pradesh’s global identity but also contributing to its economic growth and employment generation.

A People-Led Transformation
The ODOP initiative has evolved into a grassroots movement with the active participation of women’s self-help groups, startups, FPOs, and local entrepreneurs. The government is providing comprehensive support — including training, branding, digital marketing, packaging, and logistics — to help these local businesses thrive on global platforms.

"Madhya Pradesh is no longer just a land of culture and craftsmanship, but an emerging industrial and export powerhouse."

This transformation aligns closely with the national vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and reflects the broader objective of taking “Local Hands to Global Platforms”.

With its rich diversity and unique offerings, Madhya Pradesh has carved a niche for itself through the ODOP model. “The ODOP scheme is a unique initiative not replicated in any other country, and each district reflects its distinct heritage.” Efforts are underway to strengthen branding, packaging, and product quality to further boost international visibility. Tourism too is being promoted through district-specific products.

Global Recognition and Future Outlook
Best practices from the state’s ODOP implementation have been compiled to serve as a model for others. The central government has already identified over 1,200 unique products from more than 750 districts, spanning agriculture, food processing, handlooms, and handicrafts.

ODOP promotional walls have been set up in cities such as Singapore, New York, Vancouver, Milan, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Japan. Products are also being sold at prominent international retail centres like Mustafa Centre and Centerpoint Mall in Singapore.

Between April 1 and June 11, 2024, the National Awards Portal received 641 entries for the ODOP Awards, including 587 from districts, 31 from states/UTs, and 23 from Indian missions abroad.
