Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has called for a coordinated and vigilant response to the ongoing heavy rainfall in several districts of the state.

Emphasising the topmost priority of saving lives and protecting property, he directed the district and police administrations, Home Guards, and disaster response teams to remain on full alert and to evacuate people from waterlogged areas without delay.

“Protecting lives and property is the highest priority. Evacuating people from waterlogged areas is of utmost importance,” said Dr. Yadav. He stressed that every kind of assistance must reach affected individuals swiftly and effectively.

On Wednesday, the Chief Minister visited the State Command Center at the Home Guard Headquarters to assess the rain-related situation and review public safety measures with senior officials.

Ongoing Operations and Relief Work Reviewed

During the meeting, senior officials including Chief Secretary Shri Anurag Jain, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Shri J.N. Kansotia, Director General of Police Shri Kailash Makwana, DG Home Guard Ms. Pragya Srivastava, ADG Shri A. Sai Manohar, and Secretary & Commissioner of Public Relations Shri Sudam Khade were present.

Officials informed Dr. Yadav that continuous rainfall over the past three days has impacted several regions, prompting the safe evacuation of over 2,900 people from flood-hit villages and homes. Rescue operations are ongoing wherever reports of heavy waterlogging or trapped individuals have emerged.

The Chief Minister observed live footage of rescue missions from the disaster control room, interacting with on-ground officers to check for resource adequacy. Officers confirmed that all necessary support was in place, with contributions also coming from villagers and civil society.

Dr. Yadav also spoke to displaced flood victims and assured them, “The government stands by them at every step. The government will compensate for all losses, including homes, belongings, crops, and livestock.”

Those Who Help Save Lives Will Be Honoured

Directing collectors to take all precautions and keep disaster preparedness at peak readiness, Dr. Yadav emphasised that rescue operations must begin immediately when flooding occurs. He instructed that damage surveys and compensation proposals be prepared promptly after floodwaters recede.

He praised the efforts of social organisations and local citizens assisting in relief and rescue and said, “A list should be prepared of brave and helpful individuals who contributed to saving lives.” He added that such individuals will be honoured on Independence Day and other ceremonial occasions.

The Chief Minister took detailed reports from affected districts including Guna, Shivpuri, Datia, and Ashoknagar (Gwalior division); Sagar, Damoh, and Chhatarpur (Sagar division); and Vidisha and Raisen (Bhopal division). Observing live rescue efforts, he told officials, “Saving lives is a noble service,” and urged them to report any further support required.

He added, “If it is not possible to rescue someone by boat, the government will airlift affected individuals using helicopters.” He assured that the state is fully prepared to deal with any such situation.

Flood Control and Monitoring Systems Strengthened

From the State Command Center, the Chief Minister also reviewed flood control room operations, alert systems, and monitoring mechanisms. He directed that all district-level flood control rooms remain active around the clock and maintain close coordination with administrative bodies.

Public Safety Instructions and Shelter Provisions

Urging citizens to remain cautious, Dr. Yadav advised people to avoid rivers, streams, and bridges with strong currents until rainfall subsides. He warned of potential electrocution from exposed electrical wires and urged extra caution for those residing in mud houses, given the risk of collapse.

He instructed district collectors to ensure adequate provision of shelter, food, drinking water, medical care, clothing, and other essentials for all rescued individuals. “No affected person would be left helpless and the government stands with every flood victim,” he said.

Statewide Coordination and Holiday Advisory

Dr. Yadav also held virtual discussions with officials and collectors from various districts, reaffirming the unified efforts of the government, administration, army, and disaster response teams. He instructed that if heavy rainfall alerts are issued, collectors may consider declaring school holidays to avoid untoward incidents.

Based on weather alerts, he directed collectors to remain on high alert and dispatch teams immediately when flood-like conditions arise. He further emphasised the importance of strengthened alert systems and monitoring networks, stating, “Faster information leads to faster response.”

Weather Forecast for the Coming Days

According to the Meteorological Department, extremely heavy rainfall is expected over the next 24 hours in districts such as Narmadapuram, Harda, Guna, Shivpuri, and Raisen. Very heavy rain is forecasted for Vidisha, Sehore, Rajgarh, Betul, Bhopal, Khandwa, Dewas, Shajapur, Narsinghpur, Sheopur, Agar-Malwa, Neemuch, Ashoknagar, Pandhurna, and Chhindwara. Heavy rain is also likely in Khargone, Alirajpur, Dhar, Indore, Ratlam, Ujjain, Mandsaur, Gwalior, Datia, Bhind, Morena, Jabalpur, Seoni, Mandla, Balaghat, Panna, Damoh, Sagar, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, and Niwari.
