Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav on the occasion of Guru Purnima highlighted the invaluable role of teachers in shaping society, stating that in Sanatana Indian culture, the Guru holds a divine status.

“Guru leads us from the darkness to light and ignorance to knowledge,” he said, adding that this sacred occasion is a time when disciples honour their Gurus and seek their blessings.

Celebrated across Madhya Pradesh on July 10, Guru Purnima underscores the deep-rooted tradition of Guru-Shishya Parampara. CM Dr. Yadav noted that the state is home to many inspiring educators who have transformed the lives of students through their dedicated service.

‘Kitabon Wali Didi’: A Teacher Who Brought Books to Doorsteps

Among the notable examples is Usha Dubey, a secondary school teacher from Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Baidhan in Singrauli district. She turned her scooter into a mobile library to bring books directly to children in villages and neighbourhoods, earning the affectionate title ‘Kitabon Wali Didi’ from the students.

Her initiative was recognised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio address. Sharing her journey, Ms. Dubey said, “When school children brought fresh lotus flowers from home, I saw their emotion and wanted to win their trust. I took my teaching beyond the classroom and created a mobile library. Seeing the children happy encouraged me to continue this initiative.”

Ms. Dubey later launched a “Soap Bank” to raise awareness about cleanliness, where children contributed soap on their birthdays. “The children’s enthusiasm continues to inspire me,” she added.

Innovative Teaching in Sehore: ‘Dream Diaries’ and More

In Sehore district, Shri Santosh Kumar Dhanware, a secondary school teacher from Bhairunda tehsil (Nasrullaganj), has also been making a meaningful difference. Through innovative tools such as "Dream Diaries," flashcards, portfolios, and visual aids, he has enhanced the learning experience for many children.

His commitment extended to engaging with parents and beautifying the school environment at his own expense. His work has been featured in a magazine by the Parag initiative of Tata Trusts. As a result of his efforts, the school received a ₹5 lakh grant for further development.

Shri Dhanware said, “I constantly strive, as a teacher, to shape students’ lives and secure their future.” He believes that “children are always ready to learn. A good teacher can mold them into a successful and responsible individual.”

Honouring the Spirit of Education

The Madhya Pradesh government continues to recognise and encourage such exemplary educators who embody the spirit of Guru Purnima. CM Dr. Yadav reiterated the state's commitment to fostering a culture where teachers are respected and empowered to make lasting change.
