Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav on Sunday reiterated the Madhya Pradesh government’s commitment to boosting milk production in the state as a means to uplift the economic condition of farmers and livestock owners.

He said that efforts are currently underway to bring half of the state's villages under an integrated milk supply network.

While addressing a meeting with senior officials from the Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Department at his residence, Dr. Yadav shared that “381 new dairy cooperative societies have been established, linking 9,500 milk producers with the cooperative dairy system.”

The dairy sector push aligns with a directive from Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah, who had earlier called for amending Madhya Pradesh’s dairy development plan to enhance its effectiveness. The updated roadmap focuses on harnessing 72% of the state's milk production potential while improving market access by 15%.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister stressed the importance of key focus areas such as expanding milk collection, improving the genetic quality of milch animals, and promoting indigenous breeds through model farms in collaboration with the National Dairy Development Board. He also underlined the need to “enhance the brand value of Sanchi dairy products,” and directed officials to “establish a Heifer Rearing Centre under the Bhopal Dugdh Sangh.” Ensuring “timely payment to milk-producing farmers” and accelerating digitisation of operations were also identified as priorities.

Milk unions revise procurement rates

Officials updated the Chief Minister that milk procurement has risen across several unions, reflecting growing producer engagement. To protect the interests of dairy farmers, procurement rates have been revised upward by Rs. 2.50 to Rs. 6 per litre.

The Jabalpur and Gwalior Milk Unions have shown particularly strong growth in milk collection. To support pending payments to milk producers, each of these unions has been allocated Rs. 2 crore in working capital.
