A video of a school in Uttarakhand, in which girl students can be seen screaming, shouting, crying, banging their heads, and rolling on the floor, has gone viral on social media.

The video of the students purportedly in a fit of hysteria is of a government school in Raikholi area of Bageshwar district.

A team of officials from the local administration and doctors reportedly visited the school after the video of the incident was shared widely.

As per media reports, the head teacher of the school first witnessed the change in the behaviour of the students on Tuesday. On Thursday, the girls started crying, shouting, and banging their heads.

The school administration called the parents who in turn summoned a local priest to bring the situation under control.

Earlier, similar incidents of mass hysteria have been reported from government schools in the state's Almora, Pithoragarh, and Chamoli districts.

Mass hysteria refers to an outbreak of unusual and uncharacteristic behaviours, thoughts and feelings, or health symptoms shared among a group of people.
