In a major development, protesting farmers and tribals who were marching to Mumbai in Maharashtra reportedly halted their demonstration on 17 March 2023.

The decision was announced by an MLA of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), whose leader Java Gavit is leading the march. The representatives of the protestors added that the march would resume if the state government does not take concrete steps to address their grievances.

The march stopped at Vasind, around 80 kilometres from Mumbai, a day after Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis held talks with a delegation of the protestors.
