Kanwar Yatra: Meat sale banned in the open in UP due to 'beliefs of devotees'

Days before the Kanwar Yatra begins, the Uttar Pradesh government banned the sale of meat in the open.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on June 27 cited "respect for the belief of devotees" to prohibit meat sale in the open along Kanwar Yatra routes.

He ordered that sound levels of music played in the procession remain under prescribed limits, and that no weapons be displayed.

The CM also ordered the cleaning and sanitation of the Yatra routes, the installation of CCTVs, and provisions for drinking water and street lights.
