Fake ₹50 notes found in Punjab National Bank branch in UP; manager booked, say police

A fake currency controversy has erupted after counterfeit notes were allegedly found in a Punjab National Bank branch in Uttar Pradesh.

Police have booked the manager of PNB's New Mandi branch in Muzaffarnagar. 27 counterfeit currency notes of ₹50 denomination were allegedly found in the bank chest.

Police filed a case after the Reserve Bank of India's regional office in Kanpur filed a complaint. The fake notes were reportedly found in January 2023.
