President, PM Modi and other leaders greet nation on Eid-ul-Fitr

President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (March 31) greeted people on Eid-ul-Fitr. He wished that the festival enhances the spirit of hope, harmony and kindness in society. In a post on X, Modi said, "Greetings on Eid-ul-Fitr. May this festival enhance the spirit of hope, harmony and kindness in our society. May there be joy and success in all your endeavours. Eid Mubarak!" President Murmu wished that the festival strengthens the spirit of moving forward on the path of goodness in everyone's hearts. "Greetings to all countrymen, especially Muslim brothers and sisters on the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. This festival strengthens the feeling of brotherhood and gives the message of adopting compassion and charity. I wish that this festival brings peace, prosperity and happiness in everyone's life and strengthens the spirit of moving forward on the path of goodness in everyone's hearts," she said. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath greeted the people of the state on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. He urged everyone to take a pledge to further strengthen harmony and social unity. In a post on X, the Chief Minister's Office said, "Eid-ul-Fitr brings a message of joy and togetherness. This festival not only strengthens social unity but also fosters the spirit of brotherhood. It symbolises peace and harmony." Eid-ul-Fitr marks the culmination of the fasting month of Ramzan. It is celebrated across the world on different days and it is determined by the sighting of the crescent moon which is supposed to denote the start of the Shawwal month in the lunar Islamic calendar. This year the month of Ramzan was of 29 days, while last year it was of 30 days. According to the Islamic calendar, there are 29 or 30 days in a month, depending on the sighting of the moon. During the month of Ramzan, people do not eat or drink anything from sunrise to sunset.
