J&K: 2 army officers, deputy SP killed in encounter with terrorists in Anantnag

Two army officers including a colonel and a deputy SP have been killed in action while fighting terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district on Wednesday. 

According to media reports quoting officials, Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Aashish Dhonchak, deputy superintendent of Jammu and Kashmir Police Humayun Bhat were critically injured in the encounter and died during treatment. 

The encounter had broken out between security forces and terrorists hiding in the Gadole area of Kokernag Tehsil in Anantnag district on Tuesday night. 

The operation against the terrorists began on Tuesday evening in the Gadole area but was called off during the night. This morning, the hunt for the terrorists resumed after information started trickling that they were spotted at a hideout, the officials said.

Colonel Singh, leading his team from the front, attacked the terrorists. However, the terrorists fired upon him and he was critically injured.
