Indian Air Force chief highlights 'critical deficiencies' endangering 'combat edge', amid China tension

With the recent clash between Indian and Chinese soldiers in Arunachal Pradesh's Tawang highlighting the challenges at the disputed border, Indian Air Force chief spoke on "critical deficiencies" in India's air power.

Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari on 22 December 2022 said that shortages of fighter squadrons and force multipliers must be addressed on priority for India to retain its combat edge.

The Indian Air Force currently has 30 combat squadrons, against the optimum strength of 42.
