India sees over 2.86 lakh new Covid-19 infections, positivity rate shoots up

For the third straight day, India reported less than three lakh Covid-19 infections on Thursday but saw a marginal increase in the infection tally from Wednesday.

According to the Union Health Ministry data, in the 24 hours till 8am on Thursday, India saw 2,86,384 new Covid-19 cases and 573 related deaths.

The data showed that 3,06,357 patients had recovered during the period.

But the daily positivity rate - which is the share of coronavirus tests that return positive and considered a key marker of the pandemic's status - is up from 16.10% to 19.59% while the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 17.75 per cent.

The active cases now comprise 5.46 per cent of the total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate has decreased to 93.33 per cent.
