BJP candidate Manoj Sonkar on Tuesday defeated AAP's Kuldeep Kumar to win the post of mayor in the Chandigarh mayoral polls.
Following this, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar congratulated Sonkar. The CM took to X and wrote, "Many congratulations to Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Shri Manoj Sonkar ji on being elected as the new Mayor of Chandigarh! By continuing the development work in Chandigarh, you continue to work for the progress of the city residents, I wish you all the best."
The polls, were held following the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, assumes significance with opposition INDIA bloc members Congress and AAP joining hands to contest the elections.
