Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is on a visit to Vadodara, met families of children who died in the Harni boat tragedy that occurred two years ago.
According to a statement issued by AAP Gujarat, Kejriwal listened to the grievances of the affected families, who said they are still awaiting justice in the case. The party said Kejriwal assured the families that their demand for justice would be raised.
The victim families alleged that attempts to raise the issue with the state leadership were met with resistance. As per their account, the mother of one of the deceased children sought justice from Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel during a public event, following which she was removed from the programme.
The families further alleged that since then, whenever senior BJP leaders visit Vadodara, members of the affected families are placed under house arrest.
The Harni boat tragedy occurred two years ago and resulted in the deaths of several young children. The incident had triggered public concern at the time, with questions raised over safety measures and accountability.
AAP said it stands with the families as they continue to seek justice in connection with the incident.
