Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced its Organization General Secretary Manoj Sorathiya as a candidate from Surat for the upcoming local self-government elections in Gujarat.
In a video statement, AAP Gujarat president Isudan Gadhvi said the party has been receiving a positive response from the public as it rolls out its list of candidates. He stated that the party is contesting the elections with strong determination and claimed that its role as an opposition over the past five years has contributed to growing public trust.
Gadhvi said that following the announcement of the party’s initial list, AAP received numerous calls from Surat residents expressing support and urging the party to field strong candidates for the civic polls. According to him, there has been a demand from supporters to see an AAP mayor in Surat.
He added that the party leadership, including Arvind Kejriwal and the state unit, decided to field Sorathiya in response to these demands. Gadhvi described Sorathiya as an experienced organisational leader who has been associated with the party since 2012 and has played a role in strengthening it despite challenges.
Highlighting the party’s candidate selection approach, Gadhvi said AAP is focusing on individuals who are educated and actively engaged in public work.
Referring to the party’s performance in Surat, he said AAP has raised several public issues during its time in the opposition and would aim to improve governance if voted to power.
