The Indian Navy has asked the central government for another aircraft carrier, three nuclear-powered submarines and six diesel-electric conventional submarines to counter China in the Indian Ocean, Hindustan Times has reported.

China is expected to increase its presence in the Indian Ocean through its bases in the Straits of Malacca, the Gulf of Aden and Sri Lanka.

Hindustan Times reported that the Chinese carrier strike force could be patrolling the high seas by 2025-2026.
