Delhi: 'acid' thrown at 17-yr-old schoolgirl; one suspect held, say police

In a horrifying incident, a teenage girl was attacked allegedly with acid in Delhi on the morning of 14 December 2022. The 17-year-old was targeted near Uttam Nagar.

CCTV visuals circulating on social media showed two men on a motorcycle pass by the victim, and apparently throw some substance at her.

The victim was with her younger sister when she was attacked. She is being treated at Safdarjung Hospital.

Police said that the victim had two possible perpetrators, and one of them had been detained. According to police, the matter was reported to them around 9 am and the victim was attacked in Mohan Garden area.

"A PCR call was received around 9 am regarding an incident of throwing acid on a girl in the area of Mohan Garden Police Station. It was stated that a girl aged 17 years was allegedly attacked with some acid-like substance by two persons on a bike around 7.30 am this morning," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) M Harsha Vardhan.
