Cyclone Mandous: amid expected landfall, schools, colleges to remain shut in these districts

In view of expected downpour induced by cyclone mandous, Tamil Nadu government has announced closure of all educational institutions on December 9 in at least eight districts including Chennai, Chengapattu, Kanchipuram, Viluppuram, Cuddalore, Ranipet, Vellore, Tiruvallur districts, as per multiple reports.

The Indian Meterological Department has also issued red alert in three districts and orange alerts in nine distrcits.

The weather body predicted that cyclone Mandous is "likely to cross Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and "adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts between Puducherry and Sriharikota, around Mahabalipuram with a maximum sustained wind speed of 65-75 kmph gusting to 85 kmph around midnight of December 9."

It has also predicted heavy rain in Tamil Nadu between December 8 and December 10.

Meanwhile, rescue preparations have been made by NDRF as it stays on alert in 10 districts which are likely to face destruction.
