Itanagar, Dec 5 (PTI) - The Itanagar Capital Police have arrested a head constable of the India Reserve Battalion (IRBn) who was found carrying heroin during a checkpoint operation, officials reported on Friday.
At the Chimpu checkpost, a scooter rider drew suspicion and was stopped for verification. The incident was promptly reported to Itanagar SP Jummar Basar, who directed quick and appropriate legal measures to be taken.
A special team led by Itanagar SDPO Kengo Dirchi arrived at the scene on Wednesday. To ensure transparent and legal proceedings, town planning officer and special magistrate Dacha Bagang was brought in to witness the search, alongside an independent witness.
The suspect was identified as Jalam Wangpan, a 44-year-old resident of Pumao in Longding district and a head constable in the 3rd battalion of IRBN.
During the search of the scooter, police discovered approximately 7.1 grams of heroin, with an estimated market value of Rs 30,000. The heroin was seized, sealed, and labeled on-site in compliance with the NDPS Act.
Wangpan was taken into custody, and a case has been filed at Chimpu Police Station under relevant sections of the NDPS Act. Further investigations are ongoing, according to police sources.
