The Congress party on April 5 released its manifesto called the 'Nyay Patra’ for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections at the party headquarters in New Delhi. The party leaders assured to bring a law to recognise civil unions between couples belonging to the LGBTQIA+ community. Civil union refers to the legal status that allows queer couples specific rights that are normally conferred upon married couples. Notably, a civil union is not equal to marriage
