A Punjab court has summoned Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge in a Rs 100 crore defamation case filed against him for allegedly making defamatory remarks against Bajrang Dal during the recently concluded Karnataka elections.

Congress in its election manifesto had equated Bajrang Dal with the banned Islamic outfit PFI, adding that if the party comes into power, the youth wing of the Sangh-affiliated Vishwa Hindu Parishad will be placed under the ban.

The case has been filed by Hitesh Bhardwaj, the founder of Hindu Suraksha Parishad, at Sangrur court in Punjab.
