Colonel Manpreet Singh: third-generation soldier and father of two | Anantnag encounter

Colonel Manpreet Singh, the commanding officer of 19 Rashtriya Rifles, was killed in a gunfight with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag on September 13. 

Singh was a resident of Punjab's Mohali. A third-generation soldier, Singh has left behind a two-year-old daughter and a six-year-old son.

According to officials,  his wife was given the news of her husband's death in the morning after being told on Wednesday that he was seriously injured.

According to Singh's family, he had received a Sena medal last year. 

Major Ashish Dhonchak and Deputy Superintendent of Police Humayun Bhat were also killed in the gunfight.
