College accountant arrested for allegedly siphoning off Rs 97 lakh to boyfriend

An accountant working at a private engineering college was arrested for allegedly transferring Rs 97 lakh to her boyfriend. 

The accused has been identified as Payal Mohapatra, who works as an accountant at the CV Raman College of Engineering in Bhubaneshwar.

According to reports, the money which was transferred over a period of time through UPI was the tuition fees and admission costs collected from students. The accountant's boyfriend is reportedly alumni of the same college.

According to Odisha TV, ACP Prakash Chandra Pal who is overseeing the case said that the woman had transferred the money after the youth coaxed her to send him money on different alibis. Payments were also made for his father’s treatment in the past two years.

The matter came to light when the audit report of the college was being prepared. The institute filed a police complaint against the accountant, reports say.
