Border row: stones pelted at vehicles with Maharashtra number plate in Karnataka

Stones were reportedly thrown at vehicles with Maharashtra number plate in Karnataka's Belagavi as the border row turned violent on Tuesday. 

According to media reports, a protest by an organisation called Karnataka Rakshana Vedike escalated after they were denied entry in to Belagavi to organise a demonstration against Maharashtra. 

The group was headed to Belagavi as two ministers from Maharashtra were scheduled to visit the border city.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed his displeasure over targeting of buses bearing the state's number plate in Karnataka in a call with Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

While Karnataka CM Bommai said that strict action will be taken against the culprits and assured vehicles coming from Maharashtra will be protected.
