Biological E's Corbevax is second Covid vaccine approved for children in India

The Drugs Controller General of India has granted restricted emergency use authorisation to Biological E's Covid-19 vaccine Corbevax for the 12 to 18 years age group.

However, the government has not taken a decision yet on vaccinating those aged below 15 years. Currently teens between 15 and 18 years of age are being vaccinated.

Biological E Ltd's Corbevax is the second vaccine to be approved in India for children.

Till now India has been administering Bharat Biotech's Covaxin to teens between 15 and 18 years old since January 3.

Corbevax is being billed as India's first homegrown RBD protein sub-unit vaccine against Covid-19.

The Corbevax vaccine is administered through the intramuscular route with two doses scheduled 28 days apart and is stored at two to eight degrees Celsius temperatures.
