In a significant decision, the Delhi High Court has ruled in favour of a single mother who wanted her child's father's name removed from his passport.
The woman had told the court that her son was abandoned by his father even before his birth, and she single-handedly raised him.
The high court said that it was a case of complete "desertion" of the child by the father.
The court directed passport authorities to reissue the minor boy's passport without the father's name.
