The Allahabad HC has directed UP Police to ensure 'full security' for former MLA Mukhtar Ansari while also restricting media persons from interacting with him.
The direction comes just weeks after gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed was gunned down by unknown assailants who were disguised as media persons.
The court was hearing a petition filed in 2021 by Mukhtar’s wife, Afsha Ansari.
While passing the order, the bench observed, “the order is being passed seeing the recent episode which occurred in the state of Uttar Pradesh, wherein in the garb of media persons some criminals had killed two under trial prisoners, who were in the custody of the police personnel, which matters are pending before the apex court”.
