Sambhal (UP), Sep 26 (PTI) - In a shocking incident, a man has been apprehended after an encounter for allegedly assaulting a teacher with acid, as confirmed by the police on Friday.
The accused has been identified as Nishu Tiwari, aged 30, residing in Tigri village within the Gajraula police station area of Amroha district.
Superintendent of Police Krishna Kumar shared that on September 23, a 22-year-old teacher was targeted while returning from school. Near Dehpa village in the Nakhasa police station area, Tiwari, riding a scooter, reportedly threw acid on her face.
As a result of this heinous attack, the teacher sustained burns over 20 to 30 per cent of her body. The victim was promptly admitted to the district hospital for medical care. The authorities have been swift in their actions, leading to the arrest of the accused.
The SP revealed that the Nakhasa police intercepted Tiwari, who was riding a scooter, near Kalyanpur village late Thursday night. During the confrontation, Tiwari allegedly fired at the police officers. In self-defense, the police retaliated, injuring the accused in both legs.
Following this, Tiwari was arrested and taken to the district hospital for treatment. Thorough investigations are currently in progress. From Tiwari’s possession, the police recovered a pistol, two cartridges, and the scooter used in the crime.
