Signalling that they have no intention to let the Adani controversy die down, Opposition MPs staged a protest at the Gandhi statue in Parliament before the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha reconvened after a weekend break.

The Parliamentarians held placards demanding either a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe, or an inquiry monitored by the Supreme Court. MPs also brandished 'Save LIC' and 'Save SBI' posters.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said that the Narendra Modi government does not want the Adani issue to be raised in Parliament. He added that the issue should be debated before a discussion on the Motion of Thanks on the President's Address.
