Amid heavy downpour in Tamil Nadu, 500 passengers are reportedly stuck at a railway station in Srivaikuntam in Tuticorin district.

As per reports the station was covered with water on all sides, and the trains were halted as the railway tracks were damaged by the floods.

Soil erosion caused by gushing flood waters has washed away the logs over which the tracks were fixed in Srivaikuntam, NDTV reported.

The rescue operation in the area has been suspended as the road leading to the station has been cut off.

As per National Disaster Forces (NDRF) officials, all the passengers on Thiruchendur express are safe and attempts to airdrop food are underway.
