India logged over 81,000 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, setting another highest daily-high. The data released by the health ministry showed that India added 81,466 new infections and logged 469 deaths due to Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.

The spike in daily infections is the highest since the start of October. According to the health ministry, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Punjab, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh account for 84.6% of the new cases.
A worrying surge in Covid cases has prompted many states to close schools again and restrict public gatherings. Some states have imposed lockdowns in their worst-hit districts.
