Fresh Covid-19 cases in India rose sharply on Wednesday clocking a close to 50% jump compared to Tuesday. The country logged 37,593 new coronavirus cases in last 24 hours, according to the health ministry data. There were over 25,000 new cases on Tuesday.

But to put things in context, Mondays and Tuesdays have all along seen lower number of cases due to reduced testing on weekends.
Of the 37,593 cases reported on Wednesday, over 24,000 have been detected in Kerala alone.
Deaths due to Covid also saw a big jump with as many as 648 patients dying in the last 24 hours compared to 354 fatalities on Tuesday. Total death count due to the virus has gone up to 435,758.
34,169 recovered from the viral disease taking total recoveries to 3.17 crore.
The Centre has said that more than 58.07 crore vaccine doses have been provided to States/UTs so far. More than 3.62 crore balance and unutilized vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs.
