Days after US President Joe Biden asked intelligence agencies to redouble efforts to probe the origins of coronavirus, India has backed the call for further investigation into the origins of the virus that has wreaked havoc in the world. New Delhi has also sought the cooperation of China and other parties for such studies.
The External affairs ministry on Friday said the World Health Organization (WHO)-led study was an “important first step”, but more studies were needed to reach “robust conclusions”.
The theory that the Covid virus may have leaked from a Wuhan lab has gained major mainstream traction and has led to calls for probe. China has all along dismissed the lab leak theory and has maintained that the virus originated naturally.
