Indian team management's request for sending Prithvi Shaw and Devdutt Padikkal as backup openers to join the Test squad in England has been declined by the selectors.
According to a report in India Today, selectors have suggested the management to draft Abhimanyu Easwaran, who is already with the team as a reserve opener in the squad.
After Shubman Gill's injury, the team management had written to the selectors seeking a replacement in the form of Shaw and Padikkal, who are currently on India's tour to Sri Lanka. The request had hinted that Easwaran was not believed to be technically ready for top quality Test cricket.
