Zinedine Zidane has accused Real Madrid president Florentino Perez of a lack of respect in his final season in charge and claimed that he left because he club no longer had the faith in him.
In an open letter to supporters explaining his decision to walk away from the club, the Frenchman revealed that it hurt him when he read in the press after a defeat, that he would be sacked if Real Madrid didn’t win the next game. Zidane feels that these deliberately leaked messages to the media negatively influenced the squad, they created doubts and misunderstandings.
Real Madrid won 3 Champions Leagues and two La Liga titles across two separate spells under Zidane, but he decided to resign for the second time following the club's first trophyless campaign in 12 years.
