Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday morning met the family of the 9-year-old Delhi girl who was allegedly raped, murder and forcibly cremated without the parents' consent.
After meeting the family, Rahul Gandhi said that they demand justice and that he will stand with them in their fight.
The child from a poor, Dalit family lived with her parents in Purana Nangal in the Delhi Cantonment area, close to the crematorium.
She had gone to the crematorium on Monday evening to fetch drinking water from the cooler but never returned.
Her mother was later called to the crematorium and was shown the body. She was reportedly told that the girl got electrocuted from the cooler and that she should not inform the police as that would lead to a post-mortem.
The police have detained a priest in the case along with three others.
The horrific incident has caused widespread outrage and demands for justice.
