It came as a big heart-break for Thailand as ICC cancelled off the Women's 2022 ODI World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe due to the emergence new Covid-19 variant.

Thailand was eyeing its maiden appearance at an ODI world Cup along with future opportunities in the formant. Thailand was sitting at the top of its group after beating Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and the USA. With the Super Sixes stage of the tournament unable to be played, the three highest-ranked teams in the ICC's ODI rankings at the cut-off date of September 30 progressed to the main event. Thailand does not have ODI status and therefore does not have an ODI ranking.

ICC took the decision to cancel the qualifiers during the preliminary league phase of the nine-team event. The tournament was to decide the final three qualifiers for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022, to be played in New Zealand.
