The irony is stark. Within hours of Supreme Court calling the sedition law colonial and asking Centre if it was still needed, police in Haryana on Thursday charged over 100 farmers with sedition.
The farmers had allegedly attacked and damaged the official vehicle of BJP leader and Deputy Speaker Ranbir Gangwa during a protest in Sirsa on July 11.
Apart from sedition, farmers have also been charged with 'attempt to murder'.
Farmers' groups have slammed the charges against 100 farmers, including their leaders Harcharan Singh and Prahlad Singh, and have termed them "false, frivolous and cooked up".
