Chhattisgarh District Collector slaps man for violating lockdown, removed

Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel has removed District Collector Ranbir Sharma who was seen slapping a man in a video that went viral on social media on Saturday.

In the viral video, Ranbir Sharma is seen slapping a youth who was reportedly out to buy some medicines amid the statewide lockdown on Saturday. Sharma also smashed the youth’s phone on the road and asked cops to beat him up and ordered an FIR against him.

The youth even as he tries to show him some papers to explain why he is outdoors during the lockdown but the district collector refuses to listen.

The Chief Minister condemned the incident and said that such acts won’t be tolerated.

Secretary of the Inter State Council Secretariat, Sanjeev Gupta, called it a ‘Gora Sahib syndrome’ and slammed his act as "despicable" and "unbecoming of an IAS officer".
