One person died, around 1,000 houses were damaged and hundreds of people evacuated from low-lying parts as Goa on Friday reeled under one of the worst floods in nearly 40 years.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant who visited certain affected areas to monitor rescue and relief operations told reporters that the floods have badly hit Sattari, Bicholim, Ponda, Dharbandora, Bardez and Pernem.

Valvanti and Chapora rivers were reported to be overflowing because of the incessant rains.
The Chief Minister said this is the worst floods since 1982, adding properties worth crores of rupees have been damaged.
The disaster management cell swung into action and evacuated people who were stranded at different locations.
Sawant informed that government-run schools have been converted into temporary shelter homes to accommodate people evacuated from flooded areas.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane is monitoring the evacuation process.
