Union minister Nitin Gadkari is targeting to reduce road accident deaths in India by about 50 per cent in the next three years. Addressing a FICCI event, the minister said that around 1.5 lakh people die in road accidents every year and he hopes to reduce that number by 50% before 2024.
Laying emphasis on road quality and safety measures to bring down the figures. Gadkari said that around 50 per cent of road accidents are due to road engineering problems.He said that his ministry is actively working to reduce black spots from Indian roads.
Currently, a little over 400 people die every day in India due to road accidents.
