But their exploits in the 1st leg when they humbled Roma 6-2 helped them scrape through to the finals of the tournament. After leading 1-0 at the end of first half, United slipped as hosts AS Roma scored twice in 3 mins to regain control of the game. United contributed through an own goal with Cavani completing his brace deep into the 2nd half. Roma reigned supreme with a 3-2 win but United edged past their Italian rivals on aggregate 8-5 with 13 goals scored during the 2 games.
