3-time winners Spain edged past a spirited Switzerland on penalties to reach the semi-finals of Euro 2020. Spain didn't manage to score in regulation time and were instead helped by Switzerland with an own goal early in the game. Skipper Xherdan Shaqiri then helped Switzerland stage an incredible fight back with a stunning strike in the 68th min. Disaster then struck the Swiss team as midfielder Remo Freuler received marching orders after getting a red card. Switzerland's keeper Yann Sommer was the star of the last 45 mins including extra time as he thwarted many attempts from the Spaniards despite his team having a numerical disadvantage. In the penalty shootout, Switzerland were poor as Spain converted 3 strikes as compared to just 1 from their opponents.
