New Delhi, Aug 25 (PTI) — Raam Reddy's upcoming film "Jugnuma," starring Manoj Bajpayee in the lead role, is scheduled to hit theatres on September 12.

Presented by Guneet Monga Kapoor and Anurag Kashyap, the film is touted as a "magical realism drama."

Set in the late 1980s, "Jugnuma" follows the story of Dev, played by Bajpayee, who encounters mysteriously burnt trees within his vast estate of fruit orchards in the Indian Himalayas. Despite efforts to quell the fires, they persist, prompting Dev to confront the deeper truths about himself and his family.

This film is Reddy's second feature directorial venture following his debut film "Thithi," which garnered critical acclaim and won the National Award for Best Feature Film in Kannada.

Reddy expressed gratitude for the film's reception at global film festivals, including the Berlin International Film Festival and the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival.

"I am deeply thankful that 'Jugnuma' resonated with global audiences before its release in India. It’s an honor to have cinematic titans like Anurag Kashyap and Guneet Monga Kapoor as presenters. With Flip Films distributing it, the film was conceived as a larger-than-life sensory experience, and I’ve always wanted it to be showcased in theatres. I’m eager to bring this cinematic universe to a pan-India audience on September 12," he stated.

Kapoor described the film as a "modern classic in the making," saying, "It unsettled me, comforted me, and reminded me of cinema’s deepest purpose. Raam Reddy is an exciting voice in Indian cinema, and with Manoj Bajpayee and an extraordinary ensemble cast, this film feels like a modern classic in the making."

Kashyap remarked that the film "feels timeless".

"I was a fan of Raam’s 'Thithi' for its authenticity, and with 'Jugnuma,' he has crafted a film that is both timeless and magical. The narrative is deeply humane, and Manoj Bajpayee gives a remarkable performance that is restrained yet profoundly moving. I'm proud to present this film to the Indian audience," Kashyap added.

The film also features performances by Deepak Dobriyal, Priyanka Bose, and Tillotama Shome, with dialogues penned by Varun Grover.
