Los Angeles, Jul 15 (PTI) Actor Vidyut Jammwal is gearing up to make his grand Hollywood debut with "Street Fighter," a movie adaptation of the iconic video game, brought to life by studio Legendary.

The 44-year-old actor, who has made a name for himself in high-octane action films like the "Commando" series, "Khuda Hafiz," and "Baadshaho," will be part of an impressive ensemble cast. Joining him are notable names such as Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, Jason Momoa, Callina Liang, Roman Reigns, Orville Peck, Cody Rhodes, Andrew Schulz, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, and David Dastmalchian, as reported by entertainment news outlet Deadline.

"Street Fighter" originally made its debut as an arcade game from Japan's Capcom in 1987, reaching its zenith in pop culture with 1991's "Street Fighter II," which set a new standard for one-on-one play.

In this game, players choose a character, each a unique martial artist or fighter, and engage opponents using a mix of punches, kicks, special moves, and dynamic combos.

The latest iteration of the game, "Street Fighter 6," launched in June 2023 and was honored with the Best Fighting Game award at the 2023 Game Awards.

In the film adaptation, Jammwal steps into the shoes of Dalsim, a yogi with the mystical ability to spit fire. Despite his powers, he remains fundamentally peaceful, driven to fight in order to support his family.

As for the rest of the characters, Koji takes on the role of Ryu, Centineo as Ken, Liang as Chun-Li, Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Rhodes as Guile, Momoa as Blanka, Jackson as Balrog, Peck as Vega, Schulz as Dan Hibiki, Reigns as Akuma, and Hirooki Goto as E. Honda.

The project will be helmed by Kitao Sakurai, who is known for his work on films like "Bad Trip" and "Aardvark." The production is set to begin in August in Australia, with Legendary collaborating closely with Capcom on development and production.
