Nishad Yusuf, a renowned film editor in the Malayalam and Tamil cinema industries, was found dead at his home in Kochi on Wednesday, at the age of 43. The cause of his sudden death remains unknown, and the police have launched an investigation to determine further details. The news was confirmed by the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) Directors’ Union on social media. In their post, FEFKA paid tribute to Yusuf, stating in Malayalam, “The unexpected demise of Nishad Yusuf, a film editor who played a major role in determining the future of the evolving Malayalam cinema, is something the film world cannot easily accept.'
Yusuf was a celebrated editor with a number of acclaimed projects to his name. His recent work included highly-praised films such as 'Thallumaala', 'Unda', 'One', and 'Saudi Vellakka'. His editing on 'Thallumaala' earned him the Kerala State Award for Best Editor in 2022. His upcoming release, 'Kanguva', starring Suriya, Bobby Deol, and Disha Patani, is set to premiere on November 14. Nishad had made his final public appearance at Kanguva's music launch in Chennai just days before his passing.
Nishad was actively involved in several other major projects. He was working on Bazooka, starring Malayalam cinema icons Mohanlal and Mammootty, and was also in the process of editing Alappuzha Gymkhana, another prominent upcoming film.
The untimely passing of Nishad Yusuf has left the film community in shock, with friends, family, and fans mourning his loss. Tributes have poured in across social media as colleagues and fans express their condolences. The team behind 'Kanguva' has not yet commented on the tragic news.
