Mumbai, Sep 24 (PTI) Musician Shaan, who recently honored the legendary Kishore Kumar with a tribute concert titled "Forever Kishore Shaan Se," reflects on the enduring appeal of Kumar's music, admitting that he himself grew up as a fan. Shaan's father, Manas Mukherjee, who was a composer, even collaborated with Kishore Kumar on a Bhojpuri song "Kene Kene Jaai" for a film that ultimately wasn't released, though the track is available on YouTube.

Shaan fondly recalls a vivid memory from 1986 when he saw Kishore Kumar from a distance at Mumbai's Mehboob Studios. He watched as his father and the iconic singer shared a moment, “walking, chatting and laughing” under one umbrella.

“My father was much younger than Kishore Kumar da. As fellow Bengalis, they shared a genuine connection. Kishore da held a lot of affection for my dad, and I was fortunate enough to witness him singing in my father’s recording room,” Shaan revealed in an interview with PTI. “That was the only time I saw him. He wore a black kurta and a silk lungi. I observed him at a recording in Mehboob's studio, two glasses apart, at a distance. I wish we had captured a photo, but it didn’t happen,” he reminisced.

Shaan, known for hits like "Deewangi Deewangi," "Chaand Shifarish," and "Behti Hawa Sa Tha Woh," acknowledged the nervousness he felt ahead of the tribute concert last Thursday. He understands the deep connection audiences still have with Kishore Kumar’s music. “For them, it's more than nostalgia; it's a companion, a source of inspiration, and a collection of songs that are interwoven with countless moments in their lives,” he explained.

The concert featured Shaan performing a medley of classics like "Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas," "Neele Neele Ambar Par," "O Mere Dil Ke Chain," "Chingari Koi Bhadke," and "Aa Chal Ke Tujhe." Held at the NMACC, the tribute show was presented by NR Talent & Event Management.
