In an unexpected turn of events, Saira Banu, ex-wife of renowned music composer A.R. Rahman, was recently hospitalized due to a medical emergency requiring surgery.
Her legal representative, Vandana Shah, released an official statement on Instagram updating the public on her condition.
"On behalf of our client, Mrs. Saira Rahman, Vandana Shah and Associates issue the following statement regarding her current health condition," the statement begins. "A few days ago, Mrs. Saira Rahman was hospitalized due to a medical emergency and underwent surgery. During this challenging time, her sole focus is on a speedy recovery."
Saira extends her heartfelt gratitude for the support and concern she has received. She is thankful to close friends, including Resul Pookutty and his wife Shadia from Los Angeles, Vandana Shah, and A.R. Rahman himself, for their unwavering support. Saira also requests privacy and prays for her well-being to be respected during this period.
This health scare follows the couple's recent announcement of their separation after nearly 29 years of marriage. Through another statement issued by Vandana Shah, Saira and renowned musician A.R. Rahman cited "significant emotional strain" as their reason for parting ways.
"The hope was to reach the grand thirty," Rahman reflected in a heartfelt post on his X account, formerly known as Twitter. "But all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts. Yet, in this shattering, we seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again."
A.R. Rahman and Saira Banu, who tied the knot in 1995, share three children: Khatija, Raheema, and Ameen. As both navigate this "fragile chapter," they express gratitude to their friends for their understanding and kindness.
